Department of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension Work

The Department of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension Work (DCAEEW) was established by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi in 1971 with an idea of providing women with greater access to education through lifelong learning process, so that more and more women, both from inside and outside the education system could avail of the services of the department for their career enhancement and growth.

Till recently, the department conducted a large number of diploma and certificate courses for a wide range of people from neo-literates to professionals in different fields. The department also conducted activities for creating awareness in the urban and rural community for improving their quality of life, organized programmes that fulfilled individual interests of student and non-student youth and carried out some equivalency programmes that gave unschooled women access to higher education. This long experience in direct action in the field of non-formal, adult and continuing education has been used by the faculty of this department to develop post-graduate courses in Non-formal education and development.
