This Masters degree(M.A.) is for people with interest in the field of Formal and Non-Formal Education, Social/Community Development or Rural Development. This includes people who have prior experience in educational settings, and also those who are new to the subject. The MA programme introduces various approaches to education and development with emphasis on units related to non–formal and adult education. The department has an active community outreach network of its own and collaborates with a number of non–government organizations (NGOs) for practical training / field work.
The MA in Non–Formal Education and Development prepares students for employment in a wide range of areas, including Educational Policy, Government Departments, and National and International Organisations. Some students can continue to study for Research Degrees. The course provides an understanding of the current status of Education, Non- Formal Education and contemporary themes such as Literacy and Social Development. It provides students with strong theoretical and empirical understandings of educational process and examines international and national policy and practice.
Course Objectives
To create knowledge base in the area of Non- Formal Education, Adult & Continuing Education, Social Entrepreneurship, Corporate Social Responsibility, Globalization, Population Dynamics, Rural Development and Human Rights.
To provide an opportunity to university graduates to develop knowledge, skills, and attitudes for gainful employment with NGOs, government organisations, national and international bodies.
To build a cadre managers for management of Continuing, Adult Education and Extension programmes and equip them with the skills of planning, organising, monitoring and evaluation of such programmes.
Course Contents
The course is divided into four semester (64 Credit) spread over two years. In all students have to study 16 modules, of which 12 are compulsory modules (including fieldwork) and out of 4 optional modules students have to select any two modules of their choice. The compulsory modules will provide the students with a sound foundation and understanding of the subject.

- Curriculum and Material Development for Non- Formal Education
- Management of Containing Education

- Social Policies
- Term Paper
- Corporate Social Responsibilities
- Social Entrepreneurship
- Participatory and Interactive Training Methods
- Field Work/Practical
The optional modules (any two):-
- Rural Development
- Basics in Population Dynamics

Rules
- All theory and practicals are compulsory.
- Final examinations will be held in April.
- A minimum of 40% marks are essential to pass in a subject.
- Results of the students will not be declared unless they complete the course requirement i.e. internal assessment, projects, assignments and other submissions.
Additional Information
The course focuses on over all development of women students.
Modules on Life Skills Education, Personality Development and Communication Skills are in-built in the course work.
Assistance will be provided for job placement.
Hostel accommodation will be provided to limited outstation students.
Selection of the candidates will be made on the basis of their performance in interview.
Classes will commence from the first week of July.
